Shark Attacks Windsurfer in Australia

Sunday, May 30, 1999

South Australian police have ended their search along the west side of the Yorke Peninsula for the remains of a young Adelaide man believed to have been taken by a shark.

A damaged windsurfer harness and parts of a badly-slashed wetsuit will be taken to Adelaide for forensic tests.

Police say the 22-year-old from North Adelaide was on holiday with friends and had been windsurfing in the Hardwicke Bay area near Minlaton.

He was last seen at about 2:30pm ACST yesterday and reported missing last night. Minlaton Constable Phil Copley says a search last night involved members of the State Emergency Service, local volunteers, and the Country Fire Service.
