Report of Coyotes in Detroit Area

Friday, November 11, 2000

There are numerous coyotes in the Downriver suburbs of Detroit. I work security for a large steel mill. At one of our facilities we have four coyotes that appear here due to the wooded area, and abandoned buildings on the property. One of the animals is larger than my son's K-9 German Shepherd (taller, but nowhere as heavy). They have eaten all nine foxes that used to be here, and all eight of the feral cats. Do they pose a threat to neighborhood children? They all seem larger than the coyotes on my sister's Nevada ranch lands. They also seem to be eating neighborhood pets, as there are a lot of notices posted around for "missing , or lost " pets.
