    Pack of dogs attacks woman

Friday, November 3, 2000

A WOMAN was mauled by a pack of dogs as she walked along a road yesterday. The attack in Murton village, Co Durham, occurred as the 43-year-old woman was walking alone from her home in the nearby village of Seaham to the family shop. The woman, who suffered severe wounds to her arms legs and neck, was saved by six workmen who heard her screams and drove the dogs away with sticks and poles.

She was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital, where her condition was described as poorly. One of the rescuers was also bitten and was taken to the same hospital for treatment. The dogs were described as a black Staffordshire bull terrier, a brindle-tan bull mastiff and a white Jack Russell. A police spokesman said there were no evident reasons for the attack."The possibility of other attacks cannot be ruled out and we are warning the public to be on their guard," he said.
