A LEOPARD mauled six people in South Africa in a rare daylight attack before being killed by a driver armed only with a screwdriver.

The animal first pounced on two men cycling to work close to the Kruger National Park, but was chased off as it tried to drag one into the bush. The driver of a passing lorry stopped when he noticed pools of blood and the abandoned bicycles.

"The animal leapt on to my windscreen as I came to a halt . . . it then jumped into the back of the bakkie [lorry] right in the middle of my passengers," said the driver, Tinos Mkansi, who got out of the vehicle and stabbed the leopard to death.
