ALAMEDA -- A dog attack sent a woman and a boy to area hospitals with injuries Thursday night.

The attack occurred at 8:15 p.m. in the 1800 block of Mulberry Street near Thompson Field in Alameda, authorities said. Details were not immediately available.

An Alameda police spokeswoman said the boy was transported to Children's Hospital Oakland and the woman was taken to Alameda Hospital. The extent of their injuries and the pair's relationship were unclear.

Police said the dog was being held by animal control officers while an investigation continued.
