Wednesday, June 20, 2001

BY BAY CITY NEWS SERVICE

SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco police report that a pit bull was shot dead this morning after it attacked a German shepard and her new litter of puppies at 1044 Mississippi St.

A San Francisco police officer said that the German shepard was lying in the garage with her puppies when the pit bull came barreling in and attacked around 7 a.m. The owner of the German shepard grabbed a 2-by-4 plank and hit the pit bull about 25 times, according to police, but it still would not let go.

Police say that the shepard's owner then grabbed his handgun and fired three shots at the pit bull until it finally let go and died.

The puppies were not harmed and their mother is recovering from serious injuries to her neck, according to police.
